Manager of People, Culture and Capabilities

Are you a hands-on HR professional ready to make a real difference in an education environment to support learner outcomes?

Freyberg High School is seeking a confident, people-focused Manager of People, Culture and Capabilities to join our leadership team on a 2.5 year fixed-term contract. This unique role is an exciting opportunity to shape the people and culture direction of our school, while also managing the day-to-day HR operations that keep things running smoothly.

Working closely with the principal, you’ll play a key role in developing a positive, inclusive staff culture, enhancing performance and wellbeing, and embedding strong, sustainable HR systems. You’ll also lead core HR processes such as recruitment, performance development, employment relations, and compliance – with basic administrative support available.

The ideal candidate will be a confident, self-managing HR generalist who is comfortable switching between big picture thinking and hands-on delivery.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Proven HR experience at a senior generalist or sole-charge level
  • Confidence providing strategic HR advice and coaching to leaders.
  • Strong understanding of NZ employment law and education sector-specific frameworks (e.g. collective agreements)
  • A collaborative, people-first mindset, and a passion for helping others thrive.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Experience in education or a values-led organisation is a plus but not essential.

Food and Nutrition / Hospitality Teacher
Freyberg High School | Permanent, Full-Time | Starting as soon as possible.

​​​​​​​We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher to join our Vocational Pathways Faculty and teach Food and Nutrition and Hospitality across a range of year levels.

The successful applicant will be a qualified and registered teacher with a strong understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and a genuine enthusiasm for these subject areas. You will be adept at creating engaging and relevant learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs and interests.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and effective Food and Nutrition and Hospitality lessons.
  • Assessing and reporting student progress in line with school policies.
  • Contributing to the development and review of curriculum and resources.
  • Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified and registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Has a strong knowledge of Food and Nutrition and Hospitality principles and practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Is passionate about student achievement and well-being.
  • Is a collaborative team player.

There may also be an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take on the role of Head of Department. This leadership position would suit an experienced teacher with proven organisational, curriculum development, and team leadership skills.
