HOD Food and Nutrition and Hospitality (1MU + 1MMA)
Freyberg High School | Permanent, Full-Time | Starting as soon as possible.

​​​​​​​We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher to join our Vocational Pathways Faculty and lead/teach Food and Nutrition and Hospitality across a range of year levels.

This leadership position would suit an experienced teacher with proven organisational, curriculum development, and team leadership skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and effective Food and Nutrition and Hospitality lessons.
  • Assessing and reporting student progress in line with school policies.
  • Contributing to the development and review of curriculum and resources.
  • Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Leading and managing the Food and Nutrition / Hospitality department, curriculum oversight, and staff support.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified and registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Has a strong knowledge and experience of Food and Nutrition and Hospitality principles and practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Is passionate about student achievement and well-being.
  • Is a collaborative team player.
  • Has leadership experience and the ability to inspire and motivate others.

Special Education Teacher Aides
Freyberg High School | Fixed Term, Part-Time 

We are seeking Teacher Aides with variating levels of experience and skills to join the team. To succeed in this position, you will be energetic with a sunny disposition and ideally have experience in working with young people with very high complex needs. Applicants need to be flexible and proactive in their approach to teenagers and prepared to work with students within our specialist special education centre.

Job tasks and Responsibilities:

The following is a range of duties that can be required of this position holder:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support tailored to individual learning plans.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and communication needs.
  • Implement strategies from specialists (e.g., SLTs, OTs, psychologists).
  • Foster positive relationships and promote student independence.
  • Supporting students on off-site trips and activities as required.
  • Contributing to IEP meetings as required.
  • Attending department meetings.
  • Attending professional development as required.
  • Maintaining professional confidentiality with regard to student information.
  • Form positive relationships with students.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with ORS-funded students or in special education settings.
  • Understanding of complex needs including autism, intellectual disabilities, and physical impairments.
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to specialist strategies and tools
  • The ability to relate to, and build trust with, young people.
  • The ability to communicate effectively to provide information, assistance, and instruction.
  • To be flexible in working arrangements.
  • To be able to work independently and as part of a team

Please Note: In accordance with the Education & Training Act 2020 and the Children's Act 2014, and as such the appointment will be subject to satisfactory police vetting check.

Positions will be fixed term and are up to 26 hours per week, 5 days per week and term time only. The terms and conditions of employment will be those set out in the Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement. 

Positions will vary on the Teacher Aide matrix on B-C Grade. Remuneration is as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement and will be placed on a step according to skills, experience and qualifications.
