Learning Support Coordinator

Freyberg High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Coordinator to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our ākonga (students) receive the support they need to thrive. You will also play a crucial role in building the school’s learning support capability, coordinating teacher aides, and actively promoting collaboration at every level for improved student outcomes.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Build positive connections with students, staff, families and agencies as they are the face of our schools
  • Work in a solutions-focused and collaborative manner with our pastoral and teaching staff, and SLT
  • Support teachers in the development of their teaching practice
  • Wrap a protective and supportive korowai around our students who need additional support
  • Ensure our students have access to the internal and external services they need
  • Be organised, efficient, motivated, and an excellent communicator.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
  • A relevant degree and teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience in a similar learning support or education role.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Photography Teacher

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic photography teacher to join our team for the 2026 academic year. This fixed term, full-time position is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on our students' educational journey. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons to students across various year levels, supporting them in developing critical thinking skills, cultural understanding, and a love for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality photography and art lessons in line with the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and respect.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing timely feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Collaborate with the art department to develop curriculum materials and share best practices.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities and school events that promotes art and learning.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

Ideal Candidate:

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
  • Qualified teacher with a degree in photography, art or a related field.
  • Experience teaching at secondary school level is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration with colleagues.

Sports Coordinator

We are seeking a Sports Coordinator to work alongside our Director of Sport, part time in our sports office. You will play a crucial role in planning, organising and executing sports events, managing training facilities and equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of sport related activities.

This pivotal role covers a range of duties including:

  • ensuring the timely and accurate processing sports registrations.
  • recruitment of sports volunteers outside of our teaching staff and ensuring they have been appropriately vetted, and that we have correct and up to date information.
  • Help coordinate and organise sports days, exchanges and events.
  • answering all queries in relation to sports from students and parents.
  • issuing and of maintenance of sports uniforms and gear bags.

The successful applicant will have the following attributes:

  • An established ability to effectively collaborate with coaches and teachers to enhance student success.
  • A capacity to manage and resolve issues that may involve students and/ or parents.
  • Competence and confidence in using computer software to assist with administration.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills appropriate for a range of audiences (students, colleagues, parents and coaches).
  • Time management and administrative skills and an ability to uphold deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to form positive working relationships.
  • A positive can-do attitude, culturally sensitive, and enjoys working with teenagers.
  • Experience in adolescent sport coaching, organisation and development is an advantage.

This is a permanent position for 5 days a week, 30 hours per week, term-time only.

Pay rate: Grade 4 of the Administrative Support Staff pay scale. Hourly rate depending on experience and qualifications. The terms and conditions of employment will be those set out in the Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement.
